LONDON, 26th SEPTEMBER 2018: A+E Networks® UK today announced the commission of series two of World War 2 Treasure Hunters hosted by Madness front man Suggs and detectorist Stephen Taylor for flagship channel HISTORY®.

The new 6x60’ series will be accompanied by a brand new one-hour special on the First World War titled: WW2 Treasure Hunters: WW1 Special to mark 100 years since the end of the Great War in 2018. The one hour special will launch the new series on HISTORY in the UK on Monday 12th November.

In the one-hour special, Suggs and Stephen excavate the site of a huge World War One transit camp at Morn Hill, outside Winchester, home to over two million troops, travelling from all over the Empire to the Western Front. They find an array of artefacts from 100 years ago, including: dog-tags from British and American soldiers – one of whom they track all the way to his living relative; iron heels from hobnail boots; cap badges and steel fixings for epaulettes from the 23rd London Regiment; Bayonets from Lee Enfield 303s (standard issue rifle); and many more intriguing artefacts such as a condom tin.

The first series of WW2 Treasure Hunters (premiered on HISTORY Monday 9th October 2017) reached more than 1.5m viewers in the UK and was a top ten series of the year for HISTORY. (Source: BARB).

The second series will follow Suggs and Stephen Taylor as they bring forgotten stories of war back to life by unearthing artefacts from former military sites across the UK as well as France and Belgium.

Using state-of-the-art technology, original archives and maps, the pair will work with a team of experts to identify the best places to excavate; including former military bases, airfields and barracks. Once located, they then go on to perform extensive digs to unearth the findings.

As the items are unearthed, the presenters turn detective - revealing the stories and people behind the finds. They meet with survivors, experts and historians to understand what happened at each of the locations. Using the new discoveries, photographs, archive material, CGI and first person testimony, the new series will offer a new perspective on both the First and Second World Wars and the people it affected.

WW2 Treasure Hunters series 2 was commissioned by Dan Korn, VP of Programming for A+E Networks UK. Diana Carter, Commissioning Editor for A+E Networks UK, will executive produce the series for HISTORY.

Dan Korn said:  We’re delighted to welcome back Suggs and Stephen Taylor to the channel, for another round of truly remarkable discoveries and stories: bringing to life a unique period in British history, when the whole country was mobilized on to a war footing.  The World War One Special, at Morn Hill, Winchester, is a particularly poignant reminder of just how recent these events were and what a debt of gratitude we all owe to the brave soldiers from all over the Commonwealth, who made their way, via Morn Hill, to fight on the Western Front.

Emma Read, Managing Director of Emporium Productions and Gabe Solomon are also executive producers, with  David Hatter as series producer.

Emma Read said: The series is an enthusiastic celebration of the heroism of both the military and civilians and of British ingenuity during the dark years of World War Two. The fascinating relics that Suggs and Stephen unearth reveal the truth about long forgotten military sites and individuals vital to that struggle for victory.

The new series will air on HISTORY in the UK this November 2018.
