COSMO PREMIERES LOS CHICOS, A NEW SHORT FILM ADDRESSING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

COSMO maintains its firm commitment in the fight against gender-based violence against women with the production of a new short film. Actress Catalina Sopelana (El inmortal, Prison 77) and actor Gabriel Sánchez (Queer You Are) star in Los chicos, a film that aims to expose a surprisingly normalized form of violence against women: prostitution.

In this short film, a group of young people between the ages of 18 and 20 gather in a house to celebrate the birthday of Javi (Gabriel Sánchez), a shy and introverted boy. To celebrate Jabato's coming of age, his friends decide to hire the services of Sara (Catalina Sopelana), a young prostitute who unexpectedly bursts into the party. Although initially nervous, Javi accepts the gift willingly. It is his first time, but he knows what he has to do with her because he has watched numerous videos online. And so have his friends.

Los chicos reflects a worrying reality: in Spain, one in ten young people have paid for sex. According to INJUVE's Youth in Spain 2020 Report, 10.6% of young people between the ages of 15 and 29 acknowledged having engaged in prostitution. The Spanish Data Protection Agency states that the average age of a young person's first encounter with pornography is between 9 and 11 years old, and it is normalized from the age of 14. Behind these chilling data there are people and a serious problem of objectification of women, access to pornography at a very early age and eroticization of sexual violence.

COSMO and La Costa produce Los chicos, a film written and directed by Jaime Dezcallar. The channel has previously worked with the company on 17 Minutes with Nora (2021), a COSMO short film about the rights of LGBTIQ+ people shortlisted for the last edition of the Goya Awards and winner of more than thirty awards; and Flechas (2022), the last COSMO short film focusing on gender violence, which has already won seven awards. Pablo Riguero (My Fault), Enzo Oliver (Ser o no ser), Miguel Fernández (Mía es la venganza), Nicolás de Freitas and Enrico Barbaro Jr. round out the Los chicos cast.

COSMO premieres Los chicos, its sixth short film combating gender violence, on November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The film will be shown on television at 10 p.m. and will be available on demand on COSMO ON and on the channel's website and social networks.
