A+E Networks® UK and RMC Decouverte have re-joined forces with production company Just Might Ltd via distributor TCB Media Rights to produce a second run of motoring series: Flipping Bangers.
The 10x60 series is set to premiere on the broadcaster’s free-to-air network, BLAZE®, in the UK in Spring 2019.
The original series continues to follow petrol-head pals Will Trickett and Gus Gregory as they go hunting for bargain-bucket cars which most people would avoid. The plan is to fix and ‘flip’ them for a profit. If the duo take a loss, all costs come out of their own pockets.
Some of the cars featured in the series include BMW Z4, Audi TT, Morris Minor, MGB GT, Renault 5 Mk1 and Austin MG.
BLAZE, the free-to-air channel which launched in the UK in September 2016, is the first non-pay TV channel from A+E Networks® UK and is available on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin in over 25 million homes across UK and Ireland. It is currently the fastest growing male channel on Freeview (source: BARB).
The series was ordered by Elena Anniballi, Director for BLAZE and Dan Korn, VP of Programming at A+E Networks UK.
Elena Anniballi said: Flipping Bangers was a big hit in its premiere outing on BLAZE earlier this year quickly becoming the 3rd highest rated show on the channel among adult men, with viewers drawn to the natural chemistry between Will and Gus, and their passion and expertise in giving once-loved car classics a new lease of life. We are thrilled to bring this exciting car format back to BLAZE viewers for a second series, and in doing so further build the channel’s reputation for the best motoring programming in free-to-air homes.
Dan Allum from Just Might Ltd is executive producer of the Flipping Bangers series, previously creating the hugely successful Wheeler Dealers franchise and Diana Carter is executive producer for A+E Networks UK.
Dan Allum said: I wanted to make a series that would connect with ordinary motorists who love cars but don’t have much spare money. The massive success of Flipping Bangers series 1 shows we are doing something right. Amongst men of a certain age, there’s huge nostalgia for cars that might seem ‘uncool’ today, but we celebrate the quirky with the mainstream. I’m glad to report an aged Austin MG Maestro will be featuring this time alongside cars like the Audi TT and BMW Z3.
Gus Gregory is a respected motoring photographer who has a long-term love of automobiles and has built and restored several cars. Will Trickett is a designer and boat builder who has featured in numerous TV shows including Channel 4’s Kevin McCloud’s Man Made Home and the HISTORY® UK commission Ultimate Wheels.
Paul Heaney at TCB Media Rights said: Blaze and our friends in France, RMC Decouverte have shown solid commitment to this series after such a successful first run. This time we are back with a new, second run and with the experience and deft hand of Just Might TV, it feels that the plan is working to provide audiences with a returning, high quality car show.
Flipping Bangers series two is currently in production. Distribution will be by TCB Media Rights.
