LIFETIME® AND WFTV UK ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF BROAD FOCUS LIFETIME SHORTS COMPETITION

Winning female film-makers’ work showcased on Lifetime UK, at Curzon Soho and on Curzon Home Cinema.

London, 14 November 2016: A+E Networks® UK’s Lifetime channel and Women in Film & TV UK today announced the winners of their inaugural short film competition, open to UK-based women film-makers. The winners are:

The competition, part of Lifetime’s global Broad Focus initiative to celebrate and promote the work of women behind the camera, attracted almost 200 entries from UK-based film-makers.

The winning films were selected by a prestigious industry judging panel comprised of: Women in Film & TV UK (WFTV UK) CEO Kate Kinninmont; WFTV UK Chair and producer Cassandra Siggsgard; actor and producer Michelle Collins; director Destiny Ekaragha; and General Manager UK at A+E Networks, Heather Jones.

Heather Jones said: “It has been an absolute pleasure judging the high calibre entries to Lifetime’s short film competition and I’m delighted to announce the seven outstanding films. We are very proud to champion the work of so many talented UK female filmmakers as part of Lifetime’s Broad Focus initiative. We look forward to building on our partnership with WFTV UK and its members.”

Kate Kinninmont of WFTV UK added: “This is the best kind of shorts competition. It gives a great showcase to the filmmakers as well as cash prizes to the winners. The judges had a lot of fun watching the films and I know the audiences will too! A+E Networks deserve a lot of credit for embracing this exciting new venture and we hope it will become an annual industry event.”

A+E Networks UK is also pleased to announce the involvement of Curzon Home Cinema, who have come on board to offer a cinematic element to the prize.

We look forward to hosting these excellent films at Curzon Soho as well as bringing them to viewers nationwide via our Curzon Home Cinema platform.”

The winning short films will be showcased at a screening at London’s iconic Curzon Soho on 22nd November. At the event the judges will announce the overall winner of the competition, who will receive £10,000 in prize money. The other six film-makers will receive £1,000 each.

In addition, all seven winning films will be:

  • broadcast on Lifetime (Sky, Virgin, BT, TalkTalk) at 22.00hrs on 30 November 2016;
