Robbie Coltrane’s Critical Evidence
Hosted by Robbie Coltrane
The Multi-Region Crime + Investigation® Series Will Explore Forensic Evidence
LONDON: 14 July 2016 - A+E Networks® has commissioned IWC Media, a Banijay UK company, for a worldwide, 8x60 series to be hosted by Robbie Coltrane. The series will premiere globally on Crime + Investigation®, a leader in the real crime and investigation genre. Robbie Coltrane’s Critical Evidence explores forensic science and how the most perplexing murder cases are solved through evidence investigation and how these methods have come about.
Robbie Coltrane’s Critical Evidence was commissioned with Executive Producer, Ross Harper from IWC Media, by Koulla Anastasi, Programme Director at Crime + Investigation UK, who also serves as A+E global brand lead for Crime + Investigation Channels internationally.
“This is a very exciting commission for Crime + Investigation because our audience is fascinated by the world of forensic science. Having a TV and film star, like Robbie, on board who has a relationship through his career and family to the subject matter makes commissioning a show like this a clear winner,” says Koulla Anastasi.
"As the presence and footprint of Crime + Investigation grows around the world, we are seeking more opportunities for original multi-region commissions expressly for our C+I channels,” adds A+E Networks’ SVP/Head of Programming, International & LMN, Laura Fleury.
Robbie Coltrane’s Critical Evidence will premiere on Crime + Investigation Channels throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East and Australasia; with A+E Networks handling all distribution.
Coltrane is the son of a police surgeon and starred as the criminal psychologist Dr Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald in Granada Television’s “Cracker” (1993-2006). This new commission sees Coltrane in his own bespoke incident room examining the evidential trail that turned each case from a mystery to a solid case in court. He follows the twists and turns as detectives, forensic experts and those affected by the crimes reveal an understanding of what happened - and how. Quality reconstruction and archive footage help visualise events as they unfolded from the investigators’ point of view.
Ross Harper, Executive Producer, IWC Media, said: "Most murder victims knew their killers, but the hardest cases to solve are those without an obvious lead. These are the crimes that can only be solved by gathering and evaluating evidence and putting the jigsaw pieces together to connect the evidence with a suspect. These stories reveal the astonishing dedication of investigators determined to follow the trail until they catch the killer. With Robbie's uniquely compelling style, we're delighted to be applying the latest techniques to create a polished and contemporary series for CI that will make gripping viewing."
Filming has already started, with broadcast scheduled on CI for late 2016 in the UK.
