"I would rather be a mother of a murdered child, than the mother of a murderous killer….”
Marie McCourt, mother of Helen McCourt, murdered in 1988 by Ian Simms
A+E Networks® UK has commissioned Phoenix Television to produce a true crime documentary series,
When Missing Turns to Murder (10x60’), set to premiere on Crime + Investigation™ in the UK, on Monday 4th March 2019, at 9pm.
Each episode in the series will focus on an individual case and will reveal the intricacies of the police investigations, while simultaneously exploring the emotional distress endured by the families affected.
Someone is reported missing every 90 seconds. Each episode of this series features one case as it reveals powerful and emotional testimony from families and friends of those who have disappeared. Every story intimately shares the moment when a family changes forever – when a missing persons enquiry turns into a murder investigation. As each programme unfolds police and authorities investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
When Missing Turns to Murder follows the success of recent commissions for Crime + Investigation including What The Killer Did Next with Philip Glenister (February 19), Murdertown with Katherine Kelly (September 2018) and Robbie Coltrane’s Critical Evidence (series 1 October 2016, series 2 January 2018).
The series was ordered by Dan Korn, VP of Programming for A+E Networks UK.
Dan Korn commented: When Missing Turns to Murder is a series about every parent’s worst nightmare – that moment when a missing person’s case becomes a murder investigation. The dignity of parents in these most terrible and tragic of circumstances is truly remarkable and this series is a testament to their fortitude and courage.
When Missing Turns to Murder is executive produced by Diana Carter from A+E Networks UK and Miles Jarvis from Phoenix. The series producer is Jaimi West from Phoenix Television.
Miles Jarvis, Executive Producer for Phoenix, added: This gripping and highly emotional series works closely with families to tell stories that make us pause, and breathe a sigh of relief that it’s not happening to us.
When Missing Turns to Murder is narrated by actor Shaun Dooley (Gunpowder, Broadchurch) and is co-funded by Kew Media. The series is distributed worldwide, excluding the UK, by Kew Media Distribution.
