HISTORY UK TO TELL STORY OF WW2 THROUGH USER-GENERATED CONTENT

London, 22 September 2017: HISTORY® UK is set to broadcast a landmark Facebook Live event to launch its season of Second World War Programming, World War True.

WW2 House Live is a six-hour Facebook Live event on Sunday 8th October from 3-9pm. Set in a typical 1940s living room, bedroom and kitchen, WW2 House Live will immerse the audience in the sounds of the war, from the wartime speeches and radio bulletins, to the air-raid sirens of The Blitz, to the tension of D-Day and the final battle for Berlin. No people or actors will appear in shot – the emphasis will be on the authenticity of the wartime scenes and the sounds which accompanied British life in the 1940s.

During the transmission, HISTORY UK will also be encouraging viewers to share their own family’s stories from the conflict, using Facebook Live comments. As these come in, some will be voiced by actors and transmitted as part of this unique broadcasting event.

Dan Korn, VP of Programming and Head of HISTORY UK at A+E Networks UK, said: “At HISTORY we are always looking for innovative and authentic ways to convey the essence of a crucial period of our past. As the generation who fought in and endured World War II passes, this Facebook Live event is one way to keep their stories alive and ensure they reach a whole new generation.”

WW2 House Live is being produced in-house by the HISTORY UK team with contributions from the Imperial War Museum and BBC archives. The event will be filmed at The Lincolnsfields Centre’s 1940s House in Hertfordshire.

World War True is the brand new season of programming on HISTORY UK, starting digitally with the launch of WW2 House Live and then on air from Monday 9th October. Through a combination of exclusive documentaries, dramas, filmed testimonial short form and classic films, the season will reveal some of the war’s lesser-known, human stories.
